Annually the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office reaches out, along with other local agencies, to the community to lighten the load for the countless families that are experiencing hardships during the Christmas Season. The SHERIFF’S SANTA program offers the opportunity to help some of these families by providing toys and other needed items for the children.
Companies, organizations, groups and individuals assist in collecting and donating the gifts for the SHERIFF’S SANTA program. The Sheriff’s Office maintains the responsibility of identifying those in need of assistance as well as coordinating the collection and distribution of the gifts.
The SHERIFF’S SANTA focuses on children 2 to 15 years of age. In addition to toys, puzzles, and games many children will receive necessities such as: coats, gloves, socks, clothing, shoes and personal hygiene products.
Families needing assistance are identified through an application process each November. This process screens each applicant to make certain that appropriate items are distributed and duplication of services is eliminated.
Anyone wishing to donate new coats, shoes, clothing items, toys, etc. may bring those items to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office downtown location, located at #3 Government Plaza, or to the Floyd County Jail Administrative Office located at 2526 New Calhoun Hwy.
Items will be accepted Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm beginning the first week of November to mid-December (all items must be received by December 15th). Arrangements can be made to have donated items picked up by contacting 706-291-4111 ext 8812.
Applications will be accepted Monday, Nov. 9th through Thursday, November 12th between 1pm and 4pm at Good Neighbor Ministries located at 208 E. 2nd Street, Rome, Georgia 30161. Applications can only be considered if made at the Good Neighbor Ministries location during the specified date and times. Phone calls will not be accepted.
