The Floyd County Jail is the largest building owned by the Floyd County Government. It is 256,000 square feet and contains 828 beds. The jail serves Floyd County, The City of Rome, and Cave Spring housing pre-trial detainees as well as county-sentenced and state-sentenced inmates. In 2014 the jail had an average daily inmate population of 716.
The current jail was built in 1982 and was renovated in 1996 as a result of a special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST). The jail facility continues to utilize SPLOST funds to improve infrastructure issues through the Jail Infrastructure Restoration Project (JIRP).
