The Floyd County Jail is the largest building owned by the Floyd County Government. It is 256,000 square feet and contains 828 beds. The jail serves Floyd County, The City of Rome, and Cave Spring housing pre-trial detainees as well as county-sentenced and state-sentenced inmates. In 2009 the jail had a 704 inmate daily population and booked 8,518 individuals. The current jail was built in 1982 and was renovated in 1998 as a result of a special purpose local option sales tax.
The jail commander is Major Robert G. (Bob) Sapp and is assisted by Lieutenant Nancy Canada and Lieutenant Rickey Agan.
